Team Battle Guide

Team Battle is the matchmaking PvP mode added in Wrath’s End (Update 14.5 Part 4, September 12, 2026). You queue against another player, defend your own base through the same 15 waves, share a 3-life budget, and finish against a final boss. Every lobby rolls its own package of modifiers, mutators, banned elements, and element damage multipliers—you can read all of that on the ready screen before the match starts. Wins also count toward AV Arcade daily missions, so Team Battle is not only a flex mode; it is a daily checklist tool.

This page covers Team Battle in depth, then briefly explains Apostles vs Vanguards, the four-player merge defense that also arrived with Wrath’s End. For the full patch checklist, see Wrath’s End. For unit priorities when bans scramble your usual board, use the Tier List Hub, DPS Units, Support Units, and Utility Units.

Team Battle rules that actually matter

  • Matchmaking PvP against one opponent
  • 15 waves of shared pressure on your own base
  • 3 lives — leaks punish harder than casual story stages
  • Final boss closes every match
  • Ready screen shows modifiers, mutators, banned elements, and element damage multipliers
  • AV Arcade daily credit on wins

Treat the ready screen like a draft ban phase. If Fire is banned and your entire clear plan is Fire carries plus Scrap Bluntsword synergy, leave. Requeue. Pride is optional; wasted lives are not.

Modifiers and mutators

Modifiers change economy, enemy speed, placement rules, or damage frameworks. Mutators add sharper twists—extra statuses, altered sell rules, or lane pressure that rewards flexible kits over one memorized placement screenshot. Because the package rolls per match, a unit that looks S-tier on the static Tier List can be dead on arrival when its element is banned or its damage type is halved.

Build a bench, not a single sacred six. Keep at least two elements of carry coverage, one economy plan, and one control or utility piece that still works when your favorite buffer is illegal.

Element bans and multipliers

Banned elements delete whole families of units and familiars. Element damage multipliers can make an underplayed element suddenly optimal for one lobby. Ready-screen reading is a skill: spend ten seconds naming your plan out loud before you lock.

Examples of how bans interact with Wrathful Assault systems:

  • Evils / Curse boards built around Wrath (Assault) need elemental diversity—bans that delete half your bar also delete Wrath’s per-element bonus.
  • Familiar-dependent carries (Falcon + Iron Helmet, Saber + Holy Sword) fail if the core unit’s element is banned. See Familiars.
  • Fortune farms still matter; dying broke on wave six is a strategy problem, not a matchmaking problem.

Lives, waves, and the final boss

Three lives means you cannot “practice” leaks the way you do on Sloth Sin Normal. Place early defense before greedy late carries. Save burst cooldowns for the final boss instead of dumping everything into wave twelve trash. If you are learning the mode, play one or two matches with a safe Sloth-style control board before you bring Pride-Sin ego comps into PvP.

AV Arcade overlap

Winning Team Battle progresses AV Arcade dailies. If you already need Arcade rewards for the day, queue Team Battle early rather than burning evening time on a mode you dislike after you finished everything else. Minigames from Wrath’s End also feed Arcade—see Wrath’s End—but Team Battle is the PvP checkbox.

Practical Team Battle prep

  1. Redeem Codes so Trait Rerolls and gems are online before you care about ranked-feeling lobbies.
  2. Keep a flexible roster from Getting Started fundamentals: farm, early defense, mid carry, late carry, support.
  3. Know your Sin-event comfort comps from Wrath Event—pressure reading transfers.
  4. Practice one alternate element package so a single ban does not end your session.
  5. Watch the official PvP guide embed on this page once, then apply ready-screen habits in live queues.

Apostles vs Vanguards (brief)

Apostles vs Vanguards replaces the older Vanguards vs Skeletons format. Up to four players defend five lanes on Land of the Gods. Survive 25 waves for 100 Wrath Coins. St. Itchas provides lane commentary from behind the board.

Core loop:

  • Tempest Pirate always occupies the first shop slot and drops self-collecting coin chests
  • Other shop slots rotate on a timer (or paid reroll); lock a slot to keep a unit until you place it
  • Placement opens at wave 1; dropping a unit onto a matching unit merges it up a tier
  • Outer lanes have guardians that can clear their lane once
  • Shop expands over time; bosses include Beast Pirate, Arin, and Lich Sovereign
  • Host can pause or speed to 2x / 2.5x; multiplayer pauses auto-end after 90 seconds

Merge planning is the skill check. Random placing without reading the next merge tier wastes economy and leaves lanes thin. Use the unit panel’s merge-tier view and the built-in rules guide when a unit identity is unclear.

Apostles is co-op pressure with a Wrath Coin payout. Team Battle is adversarial pressure with Arcade credit. Both belong in a Wrathful Assault weekly plan: Apostles when you want coins without another Shining Castle Sin draft, Team Battle when Arcade or PvP practice is the goal.

How these modes fit the season

Common mistakes

  • Ignoring the ready screen and locking a banned-element team
  • Bringing mono-element Evils into a lobby that deletes two of your elements
  • Spending all three lives before the final boss
  • Treating Apostles like free coins without merge discipline
  • Skipping Team Battle entirely, then wondering why Arcade dailies stall

Team Battle rewards flexible accounts. Read the ready screen, protect your lives, and keep a second element plan warm. Apostles rewards merge literacy and pays Wrath Coins when you want a break from Sin drafts. Together they are the competitive half of Wrath’s End.
